Overview
Begun in 1962 as a planetarium on the Kansas State Fairgrounds, the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, Kansas has grown into a multifaceted space science education facility.With one of the most significant collections of U.S. and Russian space artifacts in the world, the Cosmosphere's Hall of Space Museum tells the story of the development of the space program and the drama of the Space Race that spurred us to the Moon and beyond.In addition, the Cosmosphere is home to the Carey IMAX® Dome Theater and Justice Planetarium. Nationally recognized educational programs such as the Future Astronaut Training Program and Dr. Goddard's Lab bring space exploration alive for more than 40,000 school children and teachers every year. The Cosmosphere is one of the Midwest's leading tourist attractions, serving more than 315,000 visitors annually.
