Use the Site

You are welcome to use Instinctive Outdoors to plan trips, look at maps, download route files, and share what you find. You may not use it to break the law, to harm or harass anyone, to interfere with the site or the people using it, or to scrape it at a volume that degrades it for others. If you want bulk data, ask — most of what we hold comes from open sources and we would rather point you at them than have you hammer our servers.

Safety — Read This One

This map is for planning. It is not a substitute for current official maps, local knowledge, proper equipment, or your own judgement in the field.

Trails, roads and conditions change constantly. The data behind this site comes from agencies who update on cycles of weeks to years, and it may be incomplete, outdated or simply wrong. A route drawn on this map may be impassable, closed, seasonally restricted, washed out, or dangerous. Hazards may not be shown at all.

Do not rely on this site as your only source of navigation or safety information. Carry appropriate maps, tell someone where you are going, and turn back when conditions say to.

Motor Vehicle Use and Legal Access

The printed Motor Vehicle Use Map published by each National Forest Ranger District is the official document identifying which roads and trails are designated for motor vehicle use, under 36 CFR 212.56. What this site shows is derived from Forest Service GIS data — a representation of those maps, not the legal document, and possibly not current.

It is your responsibility to obtain the current Motor Vehicle Use Map before you ride or drive. A route appearing here as designated does not mean it is passable, maintained, safe, or open today.

The same applies to land status. Ownership and public-land boundaries shown here are derived from agency data. They are not surveys and not legal documents, and they must not be used to determine title, boundaries, jurisdiction or access rights. Where you may camp, ride, hunt or fish is set locally and changes. Confirm with the managing agency.

Data and Content

Most of the data on this site is published by United States federal agencies and is in the public domain. Trail data contributed by the OpenStreetMap community is available under the Open Database License, and our derived extract is offered for download on the credits page under that same licence. You are free to use those underlying datasets under their own terms — they are not ours to restrict.

The site itself — its design, written content, code and presentation — belongs to Instinctive Outdoors.

No Warranty

The site is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, or that the data on it is accurate, complete or current.

The agencies who publish the underlying data make the same disclaimer and assume no liability for improper or incorrect use of it.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Instinctive Outdoors is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss or injury arising out of your use of the site or reliance on anything shown here. You go outside at your own risk, and that risk is yours to manage.

No Affiliation

Instinctive Outdoors is independent. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any government agency.

Changes

We may update these terms. When we do, the effective date at the top changes. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new version.
