Privacy

What we know about you.

Almost nothing, and that is deliberate. Effective August 8, 2026.

The Short Version

There are no user accounts on this site. You cannot log in, so there is nothing to log in to. We set no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies of our own. We do not sell, rent or share personal information, and we do not sell location data to anyone, ever.

The only personal information we store is an email address, and only if you type one into the newsletter form yourself.

What We Collect

Your email address, if you subscribe to the newsletter. We use it to send you the newsletter. That is the whole purpose. Every message includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.

Anonymous usage statistics, through Vercel Analytics. This tells us which pages get visited and roughly where visitors come from. It does not use cookies and it does not build a profile of you or follow you across other websites.

Ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, as every web server does. These are used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse, and they are not combined with anything else.

Your Location

If you use the “near me” feature, your browser will ask your permission before sharing your position. That permission is granted to your browser, not to us — you can refuse it and the rest of the site works normally.

When you do share it, the coordinates are used to answer that one search and are not written to our database, not attached to any identifier, and not retained after the request. We do not track where you go, and we do not keep a history of the places you look at.

If you type a place name into search, that text is sent to Mapbox to turn it into coordinates so the map can move there. Mapbox does not permit us to store those results, and we do not.

Who Else Is Involved

Three companies see something when you use this site, because the site runs on their infrastructure:

Vercel hosts the site and serves every page. Supabase stores the map data and the newsletter list. Mapbox serves the base map tiles and handles place-name search, which means Mapbox receives requests from your browser as you pan and zoom.

Each operates under its own privacy policy. We do not give any of them customer lists, and none of them receives anything from us beyond what is technically required to run the site.

Cookies

We set no advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookie this site sets is a session cookie used by site administrators to log into the internal admin area, and it is never set for ordinary visitors.

Your Rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — and we will. Because the only thing we hold is a newsletter email address, this is usually a one-line request and a quick fix. Get in touch and we will do it.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR. We will honour those requests regardless of where you live, because it is simpler and fairer to treat everyone the same.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us an email address, tell us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters — particularly if we add accounts or community features — we will update the effective date at the top and say what changed. We will not quietly start collecting more than this page describes.

Contact

Questions about any of this, or a request about your data, can go to the contact address on the site. See also our terms of use and data sources.
